Poor common is an area of Pine woodland and remnant Heathland, that has recently come under the management of East Dorset Countryside Management Service. There are large areas of Rhododendron and birch that need to be cleared from the remaining Heathland areas to enable the heather to re-establish. The meeting point is still to be confirmed. Everyone over the age of 16 welcome. Young people between the age of 8 and 15 are welcome to come along but they must be accompanied and supervised on the task by an adult. Leigh Common local nature reserve is owned by the Hanham Estate, and managed on Sir Michael's behalf by the East Dorset Countryside Management Service. Leigh Common was once an extensive area of wet grassland and meadows, with pond and ditch networks, used as a holding area by cattle traders on their way to Wimborne market. Grazing on the common declined around 40 years ago, and since then most of the site has 'scrubbed up', with the development of willow Carr woodland and some drier stands of oak. The meeting point is still to be confirmed. Everyone over the age of 16 welcome. Young people between the age of 8 and 15 are welcome to come along but they must be accompanied and supervised on the task by an adult.
